As it is a well-known fact that racism is a major issue in Australia, it is important for the educators to ensure that the academic curriculum will be able to develop empathy among the Australian students (Day Francisco 2014). A comprehensive understanding and an in-depth analysis of the cultural history of the indigenous people, with special reference to the atrocities inflicted on the children of the Stolen Generation, can help hem undermine the racist viewpoints prevalent in the society. Most importantly, an in-depth understanding of the cultural past of the students of the indigenous community is highly important. It is highly important to be aware of the indigenous worldview, and hence accordingly an understanding of the challenges of the students of the Stolen Generation must be taken into consideration. The children of the generation usually suffer from low self-esteem, which ultimately leads to the problem of depression and despondence. Hence, the educators have to take up a more careful approach while teaching these students, as they are comparatively more sensitive (Barnhardt, 2014). Hence, the teacher must learn to appreciate their little efforts and contribution, as a reward and incentive centric educational strategy can largely help in motivating the indigenous learners. Since the students of the Stolen Generation suffer from a vicious cycle of poverty and social disadvantage, it is important to adopt an alternative method of teaching the students. A more supportive hand has to be extended on part of the teacher, and almost each of the indigenous children requires distinct attention of the teachers. Since the students have lost a sense of belonging to their cultural roots and traditions, and are mostly unaware of their family ties, the educators should extend love, guidance and parental affection to the learners. Herein lays the importance of building relationship with the indigenous students, both within and outside the school (Baker, 2016). The indigenous people have always been compelled to abhor and deny the Aboriginal culture and yet as molested and abused these children were, they had been unable to embrace the much distinct European culture. As a result, these indigenous students have developed a sense of fear and apathy towards the Eurocentri c educational systems as well. These schools can appear to be highly intimidating to the parents of these indigenous students as well, as they themselves possess negative memory about their educational life. This can result in poor home school relation, and hence the teachers are also required to establish the informal social relationship between the parents and the teachers (Kovach, 2015). Outside the school premises, the teachers would be required to build a sense of trust with the respective parents, and hence the teachers and the educators would be required to have a clear understanding of the psychological state of mind of the people belonging to the Stolen Generation (Tuck et al., 2014). The indigenous people indeed had a very traumatic past, the memory of which cannot be easily obliterated from the minds of the indigenous people. Hence, a sense of personal investment for promoting the benefits of the indigenous community is required, which is usually absent in case of most of the teachers. Hence, seen in this perspective, it is highly important that the educators have a deep knowledge regarding the cultural history of the Stolen Generation (Tuck et al., 2014). The teachers need to develop their understanding of the history of each of the students so that the teachers, especially teaching in the remote areas of Australia, do not leave the cities on the weekends, and rather make an effort to commit their time and devotion for interacting with the indigenous community. The indigenous people form an integral part of the Australia population, and hence t is imperative to provide proper education to them. However, the teachers responsible for providing education to the people belonging to the indigenous communities must give up their traditional method of teaching. It should be noted that the teachers must develop their understanding about the cultural history of the indigenous people, for gaining an in-depth into their psychology. The children as well as the parents of the indigenous community, who have been the direct or indirect victims of the problems of Stolen Generation, usually do not have a very positive attitude towards the Eurocentric method of school education. In most of the schools of Queensland, it has been observed that the proportion of the Aboriginal children is remarkably low (approximately 5% or even less) (Yule, 2016). These students during their early years of education are often found to suffer from a sense of alienation and thus they feel apathetic in seeking education in a school, populated mostly by the white teachers and students. Their lack of interest or enthusiasm in academic matters or their different response towards the style of teaching of the teacher should not be taken in an offensive way by the teacher (Gardner Mushin, 2013). The cultural behavior of these Aboriginal students, especially during the years of their early education is quite different from any of the white children. Hence, it is necessary to build an awareness of the culture and history of these students and their families. These children, unlike the ordinary students, do not usually have a strong confidence, and rather they suffer from poor self-perception regarding their academic ability (Agbim et al., 2013). Besides, owing to the previous negative experience of the students parents with school, the students are being discouraged by their families, and hence the teachers are required to ensure that the students are being emotionally, behaviorally and cognitively engaged. There is no gain stating the fact that the early education of any child plays a vital role in the life of a child, as it influences a childs ability to learn and gain employment in subsequent period of his life. Hence, the school-based factors such as the teaching approach of the educator, his academic instruction to the student or the school environment of the institution can play a major role in the development of an indigenous child during the early years of his life (Erwin Muzzin, 2015). Truancy has been a major problem with the indigenous children in Australia, and most of the students accused of the same, have been found to be the indirect victims of the stolen generation. The survivors of the Stolen Generation were reported to have been unable to obliterate the experience of sexual abuse, racism and disruption of family life, and consequently their children were found to respond much slowly to the Australian education system. In addition, some of the white Australian teachers, being untrained usually have low performance expectations from these students that further de-motivate them (Agbim et al., 2013). A welcoming culture, a positive educational environment, high levels of involvement in the community of the indigenous people can only help a teacher educate the students. However, for attaining this level of commitment the teachers are required to be well-trained and groomed, so as to inculcate strong and effective leadership among them. It has been observed as stated above that the indigenous students studying in the early years of education, are usually unwilling to attend or engage with the school. These students are usually intimidated by the school environment and are consequently less likely to respond to the questions while being asked in the school. Hence, more interactive activities that enable the students participate and engage in a more active way with the lessons is required. It is equally important to encourage the students participation by recognizing their skills before the class, offering them small gifts, and above all incorporating the student cultural identity th roughout the school process. Drug For Sanity In Death Of A Salesman English 204 Professor Tidwell 1 October 1999 Willy Lowman's Drug for Sanity No one's life can be classified as ?normal?. Everyone has conflicts that they have to eventually deal with. People do in fact deal with these personal conflicts in different ways; some take it easy some take it hard. Some ignore the problem as long as possible and some deal with it right away to get it out of the way. In Death of a Salesman, Willy Lowman's technique to his problem solving leads to severe consequences. Willy never does anything to help the situation; he just escapes into the past to happier times when there were few problems. He uses this escape as if it was a drug, and as the play goes on, this drug becomes dangerous, leading him to his death. The first time Willy is seen dazing off into the past is when he discovers Biff arriving home. The conversation between Willy and Linda reflects Willy's disappointment in Biff and what Willy thinks he has become basically a bum. After failing to deal with his feelings, he escapes to a time when things were better for his family. It is not uncommon for one to think of better times at low points in their life in order to cheer them up so that they are able to deal with problems, but Willy Lowman takes it a step ahead. His stubbornness to accept reality is so strong that in his mind he is placed back in time to relive one of the happier days of his life. It was a time when no one argued. Willy and Linda were younger, the financial situation was less of a burden, and Biff and Happy welcomed their father back home from being on a long work trip. Ruci 2 Willy's need for the ?drug? reassures himself that everything will turn out okay and that his family will be happy once again like it was in the past. The next flashback occurs during a discussion between Willy and Linda. Willy is depressed about his inability to make enough money to support his family, his looks, and his personality. ? My God if business doesn't pick up, I don't know what I am going to do!?(1808) is what Willy said after Linda figures out that they are in fact in debt. Then he blurts out without letting any reply to his comment, ?I'm Fat..Foolish to look at? (1809). In doing this, once again he gets a flashback and the woman who he is in fact having an affair with visits him. Her purpose is to cheer him up. She does so by saying, ?You do make me laugh..And I think you are a wonderful man? (1810). That reassures him and the woman leaves. Once again, Willy gets out of his hardship by using the past. The next day when Willy is fired after finally asking his boss if he can be relocated, is when his next trip to the past occurs. During this episode of the play, which is very dramatic, a flashback hits him once again. This time maybe the biggest flashback Willy has ever experienced. He is brought back to what might be the happiest time in his life. Biff was going to play at Ebbet field in an All- Scholastic game. At this time, Willy could not be happier for his two sons. Willy's dependence of his flashbacks is becoming greater and he can not be sane for much longer. Too much of anything, even a good thing can become a bad thing. This is about to happen in his next flashback, when this time it doesn't help him out it just hurts him. Ruci 3 In this flashback, he is brought back to one of the most disturbing times in his life. It's the day that Biff had discovered his father's mistress while visiting him on one of his trips to ask him to come back home and negotiate with his math teacher. Comparing History for Hawthorne and Brent :: comparison compare contrast essays

Understanding History for Hawthorne and Brent    Knowing and understanding social, political, and cultural history is extremely important when reading many novels, especially Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Linda Brent and any short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Both of these authors had many extinuating circumstances surrounding their writings that should be noted before reading their works. Without knowing what was happening both in the outside world and in the respected author's life, one cannot truly grasp what the author is trying to say or what the author truly means by what he or she is saying. In this paper, I will show how important it is for the reader to understand the social, political, and cultural happenings in the writer's lives and in the world surrounding them during the times that their works were written.    Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is an incredible example for what I am trying to show. This book was written during a time of extreme racial segregation and the hatred and cruelty shown, in general, towards blacks from whites is extremely important to understand before reading the story. This book tells the story of the life of a young, black, female slave in the south and focuses on trying to explain the trials, tribulations, and emotional and physical suffering that she, and many others like her, endured while being involuntary members of the institution of slavery. Brent, like every other victim of the atrocity we call slavery, wished those in north would do more to put a stop to this destructive practice. As she stated, slavery is de-constructive to all who surround it. It tears apart families; not just families raised in slavery, but the master's family as well. How could the free men and women of the north remain silent while such a great atrocity is still in practice?    Brent confronts her reader one on one in order to reemphasize her point. She uses the family and sentiment to appeal to and challenge the 19th century white women reader in order to effectively gain their support in the movement for abolition. Understanding what was going on in our nation, in the southern states, and in the northern states is incredibly important when reading this story. Slaves were nothing more than property and, in many cases, were treated with less respect than the family dog.

Just imagine now having a national youth organization or even 3 to 5 different organizations all teaching our young people the shared values, beginning with sense of nationhood, that we should all see ourselves as one people with a common destiny; that kindness and team-work will serve us better than greed and selfishness; that our nation desires productive and enterprising citizens and not drug-peddlers and loathers; that honest service and helping people in need is nobler than riches from robbery and corruption; that volunteerism helps the nation more than people instigating violence and destruction of public property; that humility is preferable to arrogance; that national service matters to the welfare of our people; that crime hurts and whatever is good for the nation is good for all of us as individuals. The youth by nature have lots of energy and expectations, and unless we guide them and channel it into productive and enterprising activities, they could be easily influenced into destructive and unproductive ventures. After independence too their power has changed the fate of several state g overnments in the recent past. The Gujarat and Bihar agitations are examples of the youth power. If we exclude the youth, the rest of the population of India will comprise old people and children. They cannot be called the real manpower of the nation. So we may say that if the youth of the country are not enthused to devote their energies to the task of national reconstruction, the whole manpower of the nation is being wasted. The task of nation building is enormous and can be divided into many phases and compartments. It has some work for everybody. All the young people may be involved in this work. They may be assigned jobs according to their capacity and capability. First of all they should be made to understand a specific project and its importance to the society and also the part they are expected to play to make it a success. They are sure to work hard for  its fulfilment. They have the resources, guts and imagination to explain it to the people in detail and make it a success, They will feel more than satisfied by the realisation that they have been assigned a role in the nation-building efforts. This realisation will encourage them to put their best into it. There is another factor : whatever is done by the govern ­ment for nation-building affects the whole society—the young and the old alike. At least the former think that they are being denied the right of their participation in that task. It would be prudent to associate them with all such programmes as concern them. Such a step would satisfy their ego. It is not very difficult to mobilise the youth for nation-building. Once these programmes have succeeded in firing their imagination, more than enough resources of energy will be forth-coming to achieve the targets. And once they are genuinely involved, and their interest in these programme s is aroused, they would be prepared to give their best to their quick implementation. There can be a large number of schemes, projects and programmes wherein their total involvement will bring quicker and better results. They can play a pivotal role in the socio-economic regeneration of the society. There are many evil practices in our society. If the youth is associated in a drive against these practices, the results may be much more satisfactory. There may be schemes connected with the raising of the level of production in agriculture. The youth may be assigned the job of dissemination of knowledge for better farming, new techniques and proper use of fertilisers and pesticides. What is required is that they may be given adequate training in these tasks. In a drive against economic offences, their energy may be used in moulding public opinion in favour of eradication and prevention of such offences. The youth may work successfully as an arm of the administration in the implementation of governmental programmes aimed at fighting against these and other maladies. Another field wherein their energy may be gainfully employed is the task of adult education and universalisation of education. Being given a little dose of incentive encouragement and support, they may take over the great responsibility of fulfilling the targets fixed by the government. Their services may similarly be utilised for preventing and fighting offences like smuggling, black-marketing and hoarding. They can at least create public opinion against those who indulge in such unfair practices. Cooperatives may be  encouraged, through them for creating parallel marketing facilities to render the anti ­social practices ineffective. What is needed is that we repose faith in their capacity and capability. By enlisting the cooperation and involvement of the massive youth army, the government will on the one hand be successful in mobilising idle man-power, and on the other hand these young people will be saved from falling a prey to such elements, as utilise them for their own narrow selfish ends. By employing these persons in some socially useful work, the possibilities of demonstrations, violence, unrest and turmoil will be largley minimised.
